About
Suburban Jungle NJ is a plant community rooted in access, learning, and connection. Through our neighborhood Plant Stand, seasonal plant swaps, interactive workshops, book club, and lending library, we offer a welcoming, low-barrier space where neighbors can share knowledge and resources, and deepen their relationship with the natural world.
Programs and Activities
The Plant Stand
Suburban Jungle NJ maintains a neighborhood plant and seed exchange. Community members are encouraged to donate or take outdoor plants, houseplants, cuttings, or seed packets as needed. The goal is to increase access to plants and inspire a spirit of sharing, sustainability, and connection through gardening.
Seed and Plant Swaps
We host seasonal, in-person events where members can bring extra plants or seeds to share with their neighbors. The swaps follow the growing season and include a Seed Swap, Seedling Swap, Spring Plant Swap and Fall Plant Swap.
Workshops and Skill-Building
Suburban Jungle NJ offers free or low-cost workshops on topics such as seed starting and seed saving. Our goal is to demystify gardening and make hands-on learning accessible.
Online Community Engagement
We run an active online community space where members can ask questions, share tips, troubleshoot plant problems, and build connections. This space serves as an ongoing source of peer learning and support.
The Suburban Jungle Book Club
The Suburban Jungle Book Club meets in person approximately every two months to discuss books that explore the connections between people and the natural world. Our selections often blend personal storytelling with ecological insight, highlighting themes of interdependence and environmental stewardship.
The Lending Library
Suburban Jungle NJ hosts a Lending Library featuring books on plants, gardening, nature, and the environment. It's a true community library, with the shared understanding that books are returned so others can read, learn, and enjoy.
