About the Suburban Jungle Book Club:

The Suburban Jungle Book Club meets in person approximately every two months to discuss books that explore the connections between people and the natural world. Our selections often blend personal storytelling with ecological insight, highlighting themes of interdependence and environmental stewardship.

Community Partnership:

The Suburban Jungle Book Club operates in conjunction with House Finch, a supply, book, and gift shop for suburban birders, wildlife habitat hobbyists, and anyone curious about nature and wildlife right outside their door.

Suburban Jungle coordinates with House Finch on our Book Club selections, and copies of the book are available in-store at House Finch in Collingswood, or you can order online through House Finch’s online bookshop site: https://bookshop.org/lists/suburban-jungle-book-club. Kara even donates a copy of the book to our local library.

This partnership is a great example of community and supporting each other locally.

Current Book Club Selection:

Our next book will be Piranesi by Suzanne Clarke. This strange story is fantastical, lyrical, poetic, and mysterious. It is reminiscent of wild and symbolic worlds like Narnia.

From GoodReads: ”Piranesi's house is no ordinary building: its rooms are infinite, its corridors endless, its walls are lined with thousands upon thousands of statues, each one different from all the others. Within the labyrinth of halls an ocean is imprisoned; waves thunder up staircases, rooms are flooded in an instant. But Piranesi is not afraid; he understands the tides as he understands the pattern of the labyrinth itself. He lives to explore the house. There is one other person in the house-a man called The Other, who visits Piranesi twice a week and asks for help with research into A Great and Secret Knowledge. But as Piranesi explores, evidence emerges of another person, and a terrible truth begins to unravel, revealing a world beyond the one Piranesi has always known.”

Our discussion of this book will take place on Thursday, Oct. 23. Note: Do not be dismayed if you are disoriented at the beginning of the book! Just keep reading.

Copies of the book are already available in-store at House Finch in Collingswood, or you can order online through House Finch’s online bookshop site: https://bookshop.org/lists/suburban-jungle-book-club
